Setting up the wireless radios for the Mission Planner ground station is very easy and really just consists of binding the two radios together. On each radio there is a green indicator light (below photo) if this light is flashing then it is necessary to bind the two radios together. Note: In North America use telemetry radios with a frequency of 915Mhz, in Europe the frequency is 433Mhz. Radios with a frequency of 955Mhz for North America can be purchased here. Radios with a frequency of 433Mhz for Europe can be purchased here.
In the Mission Planner click on the INITIAL SETUP icon located on the top menu bar (above photo). Then click on the 3DR RADIO option under OPTIONAL HARDWARE in the left sidebar menu (below photo).
Once in the 3DR RADIO screen, change the COM port (in our case it is COM4) and set the baud rate to 57600 (above photo). Then click the LOAD SETTINGS button, a message will display along the bottom of the box indicating that the software is CONNECTING...(below two photos).
When the settings for the radios have been loaded, the left box is local and the right box is remote (below photo). Double check to see if all the settings are the same, especially the NET ID. If you are ever in a group of several vehicles and ground stations, be sure to check that all units in the vicinity have different NET ID settings so that there are no conflicts!
Click on the SAVE SETTINGS button to save the parameters (above photo). The two telemetry radios are now bound together and the green indicator light on the radios will be solid.
